Meridian

Large Intestine meridian

Location

In the anterior region of the neck, at the same level as the superior border of the thyroid cartilage - that is, level with the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple) - between the anterior and posterior borders of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

What it helps with

Gently supports dryness and scratchiness in the throat, hoarseness, a tight feeling in the neck and an irritating cough.

How to work on it

Turn the head to the opposite side, find the belly of the muscle and relax. Hold very light, superficial pressure with a fingertip for 20-30 seconds on one side, then, after a pause, on the other.

Caution

The point lies directly over the carotid artery and its reflex zone: no strong or prolonged pressure, never both sides at once, and no brushes or massage devices. Stop at once if you feel dizzy, your vision darkens or your heartbeat changes. Do not use with neck-vessel disease, heart-rhythm disorders or tender lymph nodes.
